Catalytic Converter Alarm 

This is an instruction manual for installing our catalytic converter alarm. To understand how the function aspect of how the alarm works please review our alarm user manual.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you are not installing the alarm to your exhaust pipe while it's hot. If you have driven your vehicel recently, make sure it's had time to cool off so you don't burn your fingers.

IMPORTANT: The two stainless steel straps that come with our alarm work similarly to plastic zip ties. If you feed it inside itself, it won’t come back out. If you feed it  through on accident, simply cut the strap right before the entrance point, pull the partial section out, and then re-feed it again when you are ready to install the alarm.

Step 1: Open up the product box and remove the alarm. Pull the plastic tab out from the bottom of the alarm to activate the battery inside.

Step 2:  Inside the included plastic bag you will find two stainless steel straps, two reusable zip ties, and one piece of material that's about the size of a business card and just over 1/8 inch thick. This material has a very effective heat-blocking aspect to it and is self-adhesive on the back side. Remove the plastic strip from the back of the heat guard pad. Next, place it on the back of the alarm (as squarely as possible). 

Step 3: Locate the exhaust pipe on your vehicle. Depending on your vehicle some parts of your exhaust pipe might be easier to access than others. The important factor is to install our alarm past your catalytic converter. Look at the diagram below and place where you see "Connecting Pipe" or "Tailpipe."

Note: If you place the alarm right in front of or behind the catalytic converter, not only is it too hot, but it will be easier for thieves to notice.

Step 4: Run both stainless steel straps through each end of the alarm. You will see openings on the back side of the alarm at the top and bottom.

Step 5:: Find a suitable section of the exhaust pipe to attach the alarm to and fasten both straps around the exhaust pipe. Tighten the straps allowing about a ⅛ inch gap in-between the exhaust pipe and the alarm. Leaving the ⅛ inch gap does two things: one, It allows for airflow in case the exhaust pipe runs extremely hot, and two, the alarm will be more sensitive to movement if it is hanging a little. We want the alarm to sound off the second a thief puts their hand on your vehicle! Lastly, fold each strap back (against itself) to ensure the alarm does not come lose. Feel free to cut off any excess strap leaving about one inch folded back (although cutting off excess strap is not usually necessary).

What if I'm having trouble finding a place on the exhaust system to attach the alarm?

If you aren't mechanically inclined, or if your vehicle is extremely low to the ground, you can install the alarm using the self-adhesive magnets or the plastic zip ties. Look for a place somewhere under your vehicle to attach the alarm. Keep it away from any area that becomes hot, such as by the engine or exhaust system. Simply put, you don't want plastic too close to heat.

 In the rare instance where you cannot find a place to put the alarm under your vehicle, open the hood of your vehicle and find an adequate place to attach it there. Again, don't put it too close to any area that gets overly hot. The sound level of the alarm will be slightly reduced when placed under the hood, but it should still scare thieves away. If you are concerned about the reduced sound under the hood, consider using two alarms.
